Misty Fjords and Glacier Flightseeing Tours

Misty Fjords National Monument Flightseeing Tour

Alaska's Inside Passage or Southeast Alaska is home to some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth. One of its jewels is the majestic Misty Fjords National Monument. Completely road-less, this 2.3 million acre monument is larger than Yellowstone National Park. A seaplane tour is the only way to comfortably experience the many different levels within these deep narrow fjords. More dramatic than the Grand Canyon, the fjords are steep walled inlets of the sea.
Island Wings Misty Fiords flightseeing tours visit Rudyerd Bay by seaplane. You'll fly over the Fjords and then land for further sightseeing. Created by glacial gouging long ago, snow capped granite cliffs, dramatically rising 3,500 feet from the sea, are ribboned with sensational waterfalls plummeting thousands of feet back to the ocean. Nestled within the steep walled canyons lie pristine bowl-shaped alpine lakes suspended at many different elevations. Fed by more than 150 inches of misty rain annually, the lush rain forest comprises giant stands of spruce, hemlock and cedar cling to the rugged terrain. Wildlife abounds with mountain goats and harbor seals being the most frequently sighted animals.
Our most popular tour lasts two hours and takes you across Revilliagegedo Island into the heart of the monument on the Alaskan mainland where the fjords are located.

Headsets with two-way voice communication are provided so you can chat in flight and ask questions as we fly.

Thanks for the "Flight of our lives." That flight we did with you was my favorite thing we did the whole time we were in Alaska. You made it a lot of fun. Here are the pictures I promised to send you. Thanks again,

Dear Michelle –
I am finally back in Germany for a couple of days and can get this mailed off to you. Hope it arrives in good condition. Again want to tell you what a wonderful flight we had with you in September. It was the absolute highlight of our entire cruise & trip and we would love to repeat it again someday soon. Have a great season.

Misty Fjords and Glacier Combination Tour

The Glacier Fiords tour is an extension of our regular Misty Fjords tour. The flight portion is an additional forty minutes, as we continue past the saltwater fjords up a lush river valley to the glaciers that remain from the last glacial age. Adjacent to the Canadian border we will fly over the face of a glacier. A river of ice, the glaciers' source is a massive ice sheet high in the mountains.
Deep blue crevasses and large overhanging cornices dominate the area. From this vantage point, one can easily see the forces that created the Misty Fjords and how the ice continues to sculpt the land.

This two and a half hour tour includes the same shore stop excursion as described in the Misty Fiords tour. Occasionally, due to lower cloud heights, the glaciers are not accessible. In that event we would only fly the Misty Fiords portion of the trip and the price would be charged accordingly.
Island Wings offers sightseeing tours to glaciers that created the Misty Fiords. Flightseeing over the fiords you can see the ribbon of ice. The two and a half hour Fjords and Glacier Combination tour includes: a flight from Ketchikan through Misty Fjords and over one of the glaciers in the Misty Fjords National Monument with approximately a thirty minute landing stopover. All tours include complimentary ground transportation to and from our dock which adds fifteen minutes to the beginning and the end of your tour. For this tour you will need to budget three hours total time.
