Michelle Masden
Michelle, pilot and owner of Island Wings, arrived in these parts in 1985. Like so many before her, she was captured by the allure of Alaska's magnificent beauty and decided to stay. She's had many experiences which uniquely qualify her as an expert in providing you with a memorable vacation.
Michelle
has worked as both a commercial fisherwoman and a commercial
pilot, logging over 14,000 flight hours. Her many adventures
have filled her with the desire to share what she has discovered
with you.

Featuring Island Wings Air Service
We've
are proud of the magazines and publications that featured Island
Wings Air Service. Here's what some of them said...

National
Geographic Destinations
"The
hazards of flying bush are numerous," says pilot
Michelle Masden during takeoff from Misty Fiords National
Monument. "You must deal with rain, fog, wind,
and tides." But the reward, she says, "is
flying in the most beautiful place on Earth."
|
"Before
we left Texas, Catherine and I had booked a bear-watching
excursion to a place called Traitor's Cove with an outfit
called Island Flights and a bush pilot named Michelle Masden.
It would turn out to be the best of all our adventures and
we will write about it in depth for the November edition
of Life Adventures." ©2002

Chad Fuller wrote an article for the April/May 2001
edition of Hooked
on the Outdoors and had this to say about us....
"BEING
THERE: We highly recommend Misty Fjords National Monument
for backpacking and paddling. Get there with Island Wings
and hit up pilot Masden for extra advice."

Alaska
Guidebook recommendation:
"You
can fly to Misty Fjords for an hour, listening to tape-recorded
commentary on headphones with a pilot hired for the summer
by the flight service, or you can go for twice as long and
have more fun with Michelle Masden.... Michelle flies her
Cessna 185 with her long blond hair flowing and her little
white dog Perro at her side (although she'll gladly leave
him behind), letting passengers pick out a CD for the stereo
as background to her impromptu commentary about the fjords.
We soared with Van Morrison while she told us about her
favorite places down below, then landed for as long as anyone
wanted to soak in the awesome surrounds. It felt like an
outing with old friends."

Adventure Guide to the Inside Passage & Coastal Alaska
by Lynn & Ed Readicker-Henderson.
"The
best bargain in flightseeing is at Island Wings Air Service...
This is a one-plane operation, and it's a small plane -
it takes only three passengers - so you get the most intimate,
uncrowded view of the fjords; you're also taken around on
a longer flight than most other operators offer. And while
the others give you a "lake landing" that lets
you get out of the plane only long enough to stand on the
float, Michelle puts you on shore for an hour or so to let
you look around."

Alaska
Business Monthly
honored Island Wings Air Service with a 4 page article and
photos in their October 2002 issue. |
Chris
& Bonnie M.
had this to say about their flightseeing tour.
"Just
wanted to tell you again that my husband and I really
enjoyed the trop to the Anan Bear Creek Observatory. That
was the best shore excursion we did in Alaska. Also thanks
for taking us in the back way to Ketchikan so we could
see what Misty Fiords may have looked like. You keep you
plane in good shape and did a good job as pilot explaining
things to us. I have just referred a co-worker to you
who's coming to Alaska next week."
